Many of us experience signs and symptoms of hormonal imbalance every day. Do you have trouble dragging yourself out of bed in the morning? Ever have an uncontrollable sugar craving at 3 p.m.? Chronic headaches? Lack of energy? Do you get stressed just sitting in your office? Our bodies are wired to send us signals when something isn't right, but often we're too busy to hear them. Compounding the problem is a lack of understanding about the consequences if these symptoms are left unaddressed. Without hormonal balances, we are more likely to succumb to many diseases and illnesses. The Hormone Diet lays out a foolproof plan to balance your life, one hormone at a time. But it is more than just a diet book. Along with advice for weight loss, Dr. Natasha Turner provided recommendations for anti-inflammatory detox, nutritional supplements, exercise, sleep, stress management, toxin-free skin care, and natural hormone replacement combined with a diet plan—all incorporated into a 3-step wellness program focused on the essentials of hormone balance for lasting health.

At this time of writing, The Mobi The Hormone Diet: A 3-Step Program to Help You Lose Weight, Gain Strength, and Live Younger Longer has garnered 10 customer reviews with rating of 5 out of 5 stars. Not a bad score at all as if you round it off, it’s actually a perfect TEN already. From the looks of that rating, we can say the Mobi is Good TO READ!

About 3 years ago, I bought the author’s other book, “The Carb Sensitivity Plan,” and I lost 45 pounds in just three months, and kept 38 of that off for over a year and a half. After trying other programs (e.g., Haylie Pomroy, which is difficult to stick with for longer than a month; and Intermittent Fasting, which resulted in such horrible side-effects that I would not recommend it to ANYONE; and also the Keto Plan—which resulted in a frustrating down-2-pounds-up-2-pounds cycle every week for over two months, and skin breakouts from all the dairy, although I know that diet has worked for many people), I would always go back to eating on Turner’s plan, even though I wasn’t losing any more weight. (Her CSP recipes are simple and delicious and therefore it does not feel like a “diet” at all. Her supplement suggestions are fantastic and when I showed the list of supplements I was taking to my doc, she mumbled, “Wow, there is good stuff on here!”) As a long-time sufferer of Chronic Fatigue, thyroid and adrenal failure, Turner’s program was a Godsend to me and has really helped me turn the corner with my fatigue. But I still have a lot of weight to lose!Forward to now—I decided to try getting deeper into the plan with the Hormone Diet and also the Supercharged Hormone Diet. It’s all very similar to the Carb Sense program, but gets into more scientific detail. I believe she wrote the Hormone Diet first. I struggled getting through the first book and it took me a while to figure out what the problem was, but I think I have finally pinned it down. It’s not the program or the information at all—the issue is with how it is organized, which makes it virtually impossible to understand. At the core is the fact that she claims this is a “3 Step Fix” and then proceeds to lay it all out… but it became very confusing very quickly, and very evident that there are a lot more than just 3 steps.First of all, she doesn’t even get into the “3 Step Fix” until well over 26% through the book (Kindle edition, sorry I can’t tell you what page number that is). Chapter 6 is titled “Introducing the 3-Step Fix” and then she immediately takes the next chapter and a half to “Prepare for the 3-Step Fix.”After combing through all three books and comparing them, I THINK I have determined (and I still say that with hesitation) that her “3 Steps” consist of 1. 2 weeks of Renew & Revitalize; 2. 2 weeks of Replenish & Rebalance Hormones; and 3. Exercise. But here’s the catch—within each of those “3 Steps” are a multitude of other steps! So under 1. Renew & Revitalize, it is broken down into further steps: 1. Sleep and 2. The 2-week Detox Diet. Then once you get into the chapter on Sleep, it is broken down into even further steps! 1. Create an ideal environment; 2. Sleep correctly; 3. Difficulty falling asleep; 4. Natural Sleep Aids. By the time I got halfway through the sleep chapter, I was thinking, “What heckin’ step am I on? I am so lost!” The Detox Diet introduces even further steps and by the time I got into “Step 2” of the 3-Step Fix (more steps that include reintroducing allergens to the diet, reducing stress, having sex, and get this—additional “Levels” of treatment to complete for each of the hormone imbalances) I was so lost that I even stopped taking notes. As for the Levels of Treatment (even more steps, although now they are called "levels") for every hormone imbalance you have (which you learned in the first quarter of the book), she offers a multitude of supplements to take… to the point that you would be spending literally a thousand dollars on supplements in one month if you have 2 or more imbalances (as I do). She offers supplements throughout all of the previous Steps and Pre-steps and Steps-within-steps, and then when she gets to the Levels of Treatment, hits you with a massive list of additional supplements. I finally noted one area where she says, quote, “You do not need to —and should not—take all of the supplements suggested for each hormonal imbalance…Fixing one imbalance may be all you need to bring the others in line. Be sure to address each imbalance in the order presented…and you may not even need to address more than one.” Good advice to keep in mind if you become completely overwhelmed at all of the information provided on supplements, and a paragraph which should probably be up front and center at the beginning of the book rather than at the very end of the “Levels” chapter. For myself, I am choosing to focus on the inflammation issue, which I think is at the core of a lot of my problems (and is Level 1 at the base of the pyramid), and added just a few supplements to what I am already taking (CLA, which I should have already been taking; resveratrol and ashwagandha; and melatonin). As for the diet, it’s basically the same as the CSP diet, although she allows more carbs during the detox week, as the focus is on removing and reintroducing potential allergens and hormone-disruptors versus the CSP diet, which is focused solely on removing and then reintroducing carbohydrates. For example, you are allowed sweet potatoes on the Hormone Diet Detox, where you would not introduce sweet potatoes until much later on with CSP. I have not started the Detox Diet (step 1? Step 1b? Step 14?) yet, as I will be going on vacation soon, but will get right on it once I return… and hopefully will have had time to get through both the HD and SCHD books before I start.I suspect Turner probably got a lot of similar feedback on the confusion issue, which is why she came back with the Supercharged book, but while I can see that an attempt was made to organize the information in a different fashion, I still don’t think it’s quite there. I highly recommend the information, but it’s a struggle to organize and understand it, much less implement it into your own life. That is the only reason I give it 4 stars versus 5+. I highly recommend any of the books… or you could just choose one of them and get pretty much the same information organized (or dis-organized?) in a different way.One additional thing I would like to suggest in the event Turner ever gets together with a really good editor and decides to rework these books… I highly suggest informing people about methylated-B vitamins versus just telling people to take B complex. After I learned through lab testing that I had several genetic mutations that make me unable to process B or folic acid (synthetic folate)—and that taking B/folic acid for me is just introducing additional toxins into my body— I started taking the methylated-B vitamins and my energy levels skyrocketed and my anxiety levels dropped. It made a huge difference for me and she might want to suggest it to her patients/readers.
